NURSING HOMES AND LONG-TERM CARE FACILITIES
Balancing transparency and sensitivity.
The decision to place a loved one in a long-term care facility can be a stressful decision for any family. Residents and families have high expectations for transparent and proactive communication updates while facilities must balance the adherence to HIPAA/privacy regulations and the desire to not cause unnecessary panic by overcommunicating. Borshoff has counseled several Indiana nursing facilities through difficult times – navigating facilities that were closing, providing Covid updates, communicating management changes, and more.
We appreciate the sensitivities, tensions and expectations involved in communicating with a wide variety of stakeholders including residents, families, employee caregivers, the local community, elected officials and state/county regulators. Consistent, transparent communication and the cascade of information is a vital part of keeping all parties proactively informed. We anticipate and plan for various scenarios to limit surprises and save time, as well as to help facilities share their voice and maintain their focus on providing exceptional care.
